The Social Justice committee identifies issues of local, national, or world significance where UUCL can provide advocacy, education, and individual or unified action. Action can be by the committee or the Congregation at large. Activities of the committee help the congregants live the seven UU Principles and strengthen the bond between UUCL, the Community, and the World.
UUCL collects food weekly for donation to the Sandalwood Community Food Pantry. An organization that helps families in time of need make ends meet by supplementing their monthly groceries. This is just one way that UUCL reaches out to help those in our community who are in need.
UUCL joins with other local congregations to support Family Promise of Beaufort County. The congregation provides situational homeless families with overnight lodging and meals. Activities are for up to four families, for one week at a time, four times per year. Volunteers are responsible for preparing dinner, setting up and breaking down the families’ rooms, and staying overnight. UUCL has been dedicated to this work for seven years.
