My passion for preventing domestic violence and sexual assault began over 30 years ago. As a survivor of domestic violence, I decided to give back to the community that saved me and began volunteering at the local emergency shelter, engaging kids in activities while their moms attended a weekly group counseling session. I continued to give time, supplies and funds to that same shelter for the next 20 years eventually, joining the board of directors and serving as fundraising chair and board president.

I currently serve as vice-chair for the South Carolina Coalition Against Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault and look forward to continuing to support the agency’s mission of promoting prevention, advocacy and education. I attended the University of South Carolina, The Technical College of the Lowcountry and the University of Southern Mississippi. I completed the very first AmeriCorps class and earned certification as a crisis responder. I then joined the Rape Crisis Center of the Lowcountry as an Advocate for Juvenile Victims of sexual assault. While working at the Center, I was hired as a consultant for Beaufort County Alcohol and Drug Prevention. During my time with BCAD, I developed a curriculum for girls focusing on self-esteem and conflict resolution. The DESTINY program was presented to students in Beaufort, Jasper and Hampton County. In addition to working as an advocate, I started and have run my own small
business for the past 27 years.

I have an amazing granddaughter, named Emrys. A Pomeranian named Bella and a husband, daughters and son-in-law that require and receive my love and devotion in the order they are listed above.
